1854- Volusia County formed from Orange County*
1855
1856- Orlando named the county seat*
1857- Orlando's name officially recognized by Post Office Department*
- Alabama's Benjamin F. Caldwell deeds 4 acres of land to Orange County for site of county's first courthouse***

1861- Orlando Post Office discontinued March 19*
1862
1863- 2-story log courthouse built* Burned to the ground in 1868***
1864

1866- Orlando Post Office re-established*
1867
1868- Civil Government re-established*
- 1863 log courthouse burned. All court records destroyed except for Deed Book D which a clerk took home for the night***
1869- Second frame courthouse built* Served as church, schoolhouse and dance hall. Relocated in 1875 to make room for new courthouse.
- Orange County official records begin*
- Orange County schools established*
1870- Sheriff Dave Mizell and up to 8 more killed as part of the Barber-Mizell Feud on February 21***
1871
1872- Free Church and school house built*
1873- Boundary lines between Orange and Brevard counties changed*
- Jacob Summerlin moves to Orlando*
1874
1875- Orlando incorporated*
- 1869 courthouse moved to make way for new 3-story courthouse and served as home of Orange County Reporter after the move***
- Large 3-story frame courthouse built* Used until 1892 when moved to corner of Main Street (Magnolia) and Church Street to become part of Tremont Hotel***
1876- Orange County Reporter founded*

1878
1879- Boundary line between Orange, Polk, and Sumter counties rearranged*
1880- South Florida Railroad completed from Sanford to Orlando*
